Specialists
A specialist is a doctor who works in one healthcare specialty, for example: heart, skin or bones. Your MHS Primary Medical Provider (PMP) may refer you to see a specialist if needed. Normally, your MHS doctor will refer you to another MHS specialty doctor, or your current specialist if you are in active treatment with a non MHS specialist.
You can search for a MHS specialist by clicking on the Find a Doctor tab:
- Click on “Start Provider Search”
- When the new window opens, select “Specialist” as the “Doctor/ Facility Type”
Your MHS PMP must give you approval to see a specialist. In some cases, your doctor will work with MHS to get this approval. If this approval is denied or there is a change in the recommended treatment plan and/or limitation on visits or benefits, you will get a letter. We will not delay your care or jeopardize your health awaiting these decisions. All decisions are made as quickly as your health condition requires.
Please remember, you must contact your PMP before seeing a specialist.
